Taylor Swift Takes on Tim Tebow Dating Jokes and More at ACM Awards.

If your name is Taylor Swift, then one thing you’re never going to be free from (or, at least until marriage) are dating rumors. It seems Swift’s fanbase and the media alike would love to see the country starlet with a beau. And while others have to announce their romances by becoming Facebook official or tweeting a sweet nothing, all Miss Swift has to do is look someone in the eyes or share a meal with a guy (and his agent) and — bam — love is in the air.

At the ACM Awards over the weekend, one of these dating rumors surfaced when hosts Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire gave it a mention from the stage during their jokey current events banter, which seemed to surprise the ‘Ours’ singer. “Well, how about the rumor that Tim Tebow went on a date with Taylor Swift?” McEntire asked from the stage. And as the ACM crowd offered up cheers and “oohs,” Swift looked genuinely confused, shrugging her shoulders and mouthing “What?” like perhaps she didn’t even have the time to hear of that rumor its first time around.

Still, the starlet seemed to take it all in stride, even when Shelton made the additional onstage comment of Tebow, “Now we know what he’s been praying for.” Swift just looked down and laughed, only slightly uncomfortably and probably used to the dating jokes by now. But her moment in the spotlight wasn’t quite over yet, as Shelton continued, “You know I actually saw where Taylor is gonna be coming out with her own perfume. It’s actually called [makes signature Taylor Swift surprised, hands-on-the-cheeks face].  I can’t believe I smell this good!”

Swift took home her second consecutive Entertainer of the Year ACM Award this year, and we did notice that she avoided lifting her hands to her cheeks in a look of surprise. She did mention a date, but it certainly wasn’t Tebow. Swift gave a shout from the stage to New Jersey teen Kevin McGuire, a high school senior battling cancer who was supposed to accompany Swift to the show but, due to last minute health complications and a low blood count, unfortunately had to stay home.

Katie Price confirms dating Leandro Penna.

Former glamour model Katie Price has ended speculation that she is “only friends” with Argentine model Leandro Penna, telling Twitter followers she is in love with the 26-year-old.

After weeks of rumors concerning whether she was single or in a relationship with Penna, Price posted on Twitter, “I’m in love with leandro_penna”.

The couple dated throughout 2011 but split last October with Price reportedly having trouble with the language barrier, reported Contactmusic.

Recent reports had suggested the couple were just friends, though the pair were photographed on an evening-out in London, fuelling speculation of a reunion.

Rogerson confident in Dating

Debbie Rogerson has a hot date.

But it’s got nothing to do with her husband, Racing Hall of Fame trainer Graeme Rogerson, being away in Melbourne on Saturday with A$2.25 million The BMW hopeful Scarlett Lady.

Debbie Rogerson’s focus on Saturday is a domestic Gr I race, the $200,000 New Zealand Breeders’ Stakes (1600m) at Te Aroha, where she will saddle O’Reilly mare Dating.

”I’m really happy with her. She worked really well this morning. Now we’ve just got to draw a nice barrier,” Rogerson said yesterday.

Bred and raced by Waikato Stud, Dating has won five of her 19 starts and proved herself up with the best of her age and sex over the past three seasons.

She was a stakes-winning two-year-old in the Ryder Stakes (1200m) at Otaki, going on to win the Gr III Desert Gold Stakes (1600m) at Trentham and finish a luckless fourth in the Gr I New Zealand Oaks (2400m) at the same track.

This season she won the Gr III Taranaki Breeders’ Stakes fresh-up at Hawera in October and finished third to Mufhasa in the Gr I Captain Cook Stakes (1600m) at Trentham.

Since then she has ran a gallant second to Floria in the Gr III Cuddle Stakes (1600m) at Trentham.

Lisa Allpress takes over the reins on Saturday, with last-start rider James McDonald aboard Scarlett Lady in The BMW.

”I was really happy with her run at Trentham,” Rogerson said.

”It was really just the bob of her head. Our horse had the wrong stride at the wrong stride and she got beaten a long head.

”She was third to Mufhasa in the Captain Cook and she’s shown she’s right up there with the best fillies and mares.

”The track conditions won’t worry her either. It can rain, it can be dry – she goes pretty much on anything.”

Rogerson said tomorrow’s barrier draw would be crucial to Dating’s chances.

”Every time she’s drawn a decent barrier, she’s either won or run second or third,” she said.

”She’s had a lot of bad luck at the barriers, drawing out so we’ve had to ride her quietly and then she’s flashed home. She’ll definitely be competitive if she can draw a decent barrier.”

Dating is one of three horses the Rogersons train for Waikato Stud along with promising Zabeel filly Toss Up and maiden O’Reilly filly Serenade.

”They’ve been good supporters of ours and it would be nice to win the big one for them on Saturday,” Rogerson said.

Waikato Stud also races Do Ra Mi, another of the 25 entries received yesterday for the Fiber Fresh New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.

Among the other entries were Gr I Thorndon Mile winner Say No More, fellow high-class mares Postmans Daughter, Platinum Princess, Fazzle, Fleur De Lune, Floria, Lady Kipling, Villifye, Smoulder, Lady Chaparral, No Excuse Maggie and emerging star filly Xanadu.

The Rogersons’ other runner at Te Aroha is Endor, who contests the $40,000 Te Aroha Cup (2200m) as a possible precursor to the Gr III $70,000 Hawke’s Bay Cup (2200m) at Hastings on April 21 and the Gr III $70,000 Rotorua Cup (2200m) at May 12.

In Sydney, dual Gr I winner Scarlett Lady attempts to improve on her midfield finish in the Gr I Ranvet Stakes when she contests The BMW, having improved significantly in her work since.

She flew back to Hamilton after the Ranvet and returns to Sydney tomorrow.

Another focus for the stable is Schooner Bay, a Windsor Park Stud-owned Falkirk filly who scored at Te Awamutu on debut.

She runs in a Rating 65 sprint at Ellerslie on Monday in preparation for the Gr III $70,000 Windsor Park Stud Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) at Te Rapa on April 28.ly happy with her run at Trentham,” Rogerson said.

Widowed seniors create guide to Internet dating for their peers.

Co-authors Martha T. DiGioia and Robert Ruggles experienced years of widowhood before deciding they were finally ready to take the plunge back into dating. Unable to find suitable mates, they each turned to their marketing backgrounds to better their chances at creating lasting, meaningful relationships. In “Adventures with My Mouse: Seniors Make It Happen with Internet Dating” (ISBN 1461089689), the authors include their own experiences and personal knowledge to help other seniors have more choices for a fulfilling dating life.

As we grow older and leave highly interactive social settings, the authors note, it becomes harder to find matches for dating. We tend to frown upon meeting in bars, and the chances of meeting someone special in church or the grocery store’s produce section are low. Due to our technologically advanced society, the authors argue, Internet dating has become increasingly accepted by seniors as a way of meeting their significant other.

DiGioia and Ruggles create a complete strategy for readers for when they enter the world of online dating. Real life experiences are included in order to convince readers that positive outcomes are certainly possible, which serves to put in proper perspective the inner fears.

“There was a time when the computer was a mystery to seniors, but now they are the largest growing group of Internet users,” says DiGioia. “They are living 25 to 30 years longer than previous generations, and many active single seniors want to find a loving person to share those bonus years.”

DiGioia and Ruggles encourage their readers every step of the way to make it possible to achieve a successful dating life. No one should be without a companion to eat dinner or play golf, the authors argue, and they hope their advice will help seniors find a significant other with whom to share such activities.

“Adventures with My Mouse: Seniors Make It Happen with Internet Dating” is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.

About the Authors: After 20 years of widowhood, Martha T. DiGioia was ready to use her marketing expertise to create a relationship with a desirable mate. Her degrees in music provided many outlets for meeting people, but the right person never seemed to materialize. Her co-author, Robert Ruggles, a more recent widower, was also ready to take the necessary steps toward a satisfying relationship, and similarly, had made a career of marketing and advertising. Both now retired, they hope to help other seniors looking to enter into the world of online dating by sharing their personal experience and advice.

The dating world of disabled people.

The world of disability and dating is being examined in new series The Undateables. But what are some of the dating complexities that disabled people face, asks Damon Rose. It goes without saying that you can’t lump all disabled people together when discussing this most personal of all subjects.

The barriers to dating, and gaining a relationship, are different depending on your disability and circumstances.

Adrian Higginbotham, 37, is blind and explains that for him the difficulties start with making first contact, the starting point for any relationship.

“You can’t do that casual walking into a room and making eye contact thing. You can’t smile at someone you have seen twice before walking down that same street.”

Anybody blind doesn’t know if the person sitting on the train next to them is the one they sat next to yesterday or if they’re someone who works in their building three floors up.

They can’t have nodding relationships that could go further. “A blind person I know used to deliberately wear odd shoes to try and get people to comment on it to see if anyone would say to him: “Do you realise you’ve got odd shoes on?”,” says Higginbotham. “He was trying to engineer a social interaction, though I hope he was being slightly tongue-in-cheek.”

When thinking about the basic blocks of relationship building, little can be more basic than choosing who you spend your time with. But not everyone has that choice.

Channel 4’s The Undateables features many people with learning difficulties and introduces us to a dating agency, Stars in the Sky, who help put people in touch with each other.

Lydia Jones is one of their chaperones – she makes sure that their clients get to the date venue safely and that they meet the right person, but she also oils lulls in conversations.

“Quite often, people with learning disabilities are forced into sharing relationships with people who they don’t have a choice about being with,” says Jones. “Their peers are the ones they meet at a day service or in supported living accommodation.”

Stars in the Sky is a small charity which has organised over 180 dates since starting in 2005. So far they have been the catalyst to one marriage, one same-sex ceremony, three engagements and around 15 longer term relationships.

Physical access gets top billing in terms of importance for wheelchair user Shannon Murray, a model who was the face of a recent publicity campaign for Debenhams. She doesn’t intend to get caught out by a date who might see her struggling up steps and be put off before the date even starts.

“I keep a shortlist of restaurants and bars on my Blackberry which don’t just have accessible loos but also have completely flat entrances. On a first date I am worried that guys come to the table believing I’m needy or not independent. I need to be completely in control.”

She feels that some of her relationships may have failed because of “over-independence” and her drive to never show vulnerability.

Miss Universe

Transgender beauty queen Jenna Talackova urges Donald Trump to drop Miss Universe rule requiring contestants to be ‘naturally born’ women.

‘I do not want any other woman to suffer the discrimination that I have endured’

The transgender beauty queen who wants to be Miss Universe urged Donald Trump to go all the way Tuesday and definitively drop a rule requiring contestants to be “naturally born” women.

Jenna Talackova, 23, and her lawyer Gloria Allred said such a move would help clarify her confusing situation and help cement the mogul’s status as a leader in the fight against discrimination.

“I do not want any other woman to suffer the discrimination that I have endured,” Talackova told reporters at Allred’s office Tuesday.

Talackova, wearing a pink sweater and long blond curls, and Allred jointly held up a copy of her passport, which lists her as female.

“I am a woman,” Talackova said. “I was devastated (when I was disqualified), and I felt that excluding me for the reason that they gave was unjust. I have never asked for any special consideration. I only wanted to compete.”

The Vancouver model was born male but had a sex change operation four years ago.

Her sex change led organizers in Canada to disqualify her from the 61st Miss Universe Canada pageant in May citing a rule that only “naturally born” females can compete.

Trump’s New York-based Miss Universe Organization took fire for the disqualification and seemed to back-peddle late Monday.

The parent group said Talackova would be allowed to compete “provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions.”

Allred blasted the statement as confusing and urged Trump to clearly state Talackova was welcome to compete.

“Jenna entered this competition and gave the pageant her time, her best efforts and her money. She did not think for one moment that what she might have looked like at birth would be relevant,” Allred said.

“She did not ask Mr. Trump to prove that he is a naturally-born man, or to see the photos of his birth, to view his anatomy, to prove that he was male. It made no difference to her. Why should it have made a difference to him?”

Allred implied Talackova was considering suing the pageant.

“Mr. Trump’s statement fails to state that the rule that only naturally-born women will be allowed to compete will be eliminated,” Allred said. “Otherwise, we are considering all of Jenna’s legal options.”

Kim Kardashian Causes Trouble in the Land Down Under.

Kim Kardashian better be careful the next time she visits Australia — she’s been put on a watch list by the Immigration Department.

Kris Humphries is trying to annul his marriage to Kim, and he’s cited fraud as the reason he wants their union stricken from the record. However, he’s not the only one claiming that Kim is a liar.

The Immigration Department in Australia is just a little ticked off with Kim because her visa application says that she’s a tourist. Kim jetted off to the land down under shortly after her divorce news broke, but the demise of her marriage wasn’t her only problem at the time. The trip sparked an inquiry by the Immigration Department because Kim Kardashian was actually in Australia for a business appearance, not as a tourist like her visa said. The inquiry found that the reality show star had lied about the nature of her trip twice before, so her next visits will be carefully monitored. Her visa can be cancelled if she breaches the conditions of it.

But if anyone is good at avoiding being cancelled, it’s the Kardashians. Even though a petition begging E! to take shows like Kourtney and Kim Take New York off the air got over 100,000 signatures, ratings for its premiere were better than ever. The news of Kourtney Kardashian’s pregnancy has also overshadowed Kim Kardashian’s divorce drama, so things just seem to have a way of working out for her no matter what she does (now if only she could be lucky in love, too).

Kim might want to be careful about getting shut out of Australia, however – her little sister Kylie Jenner is currently dating pop star Cody Simpson, who has been dubbed the Australian Justin Bieber.

Kris Jenner is probably thrilled about this new relationship in her family that has come along at such a perfect time, and she’s got to be scheming about how she can make Kylie and Cody the next Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. She’d probably also love to take the whole family on a trip with Cody to his homeland for one of their reality shows – by featuring the pop star, she’d get a whole new generation of girls watching her family (and maybe Kourtney Kardashian could get a Vegemite enema while she’s there).

Kim’s already probably feeling left out because her sisters are both in relationships and Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant. After all, the newly single star seems to be a little bit down because she’s convinced herself that she’ll never get the chance to have kids of her own now. So she’d feel left out again if her family did go on a trip to Australia with Kylie Jenner and Cody Simpson.

But what do you think – would it be smart for the outback to banish Kim?

Kylie Jenner, Cody Simpson Dating?

Are Kylie Jenner and Cody Simpson an item? Though Cody swears that they aren’t dating, photos may paint a very different picture. Yep, Simpson and the youngest of the Kardashian girls, Kylie were spotted out on what looked like a date.

So, Kylie Jenner and Cody Simpson were spotted taking in a movie together. Cody even held the door open for her. Of course, Simpson spent most of the time following behind Kylie like a lost little puppy dog, while Jenner was constantly on her smart phone texting and tweeting away.

It makes one wonder where Kylie got these sort of manners from; perhaps big sister Kim Kardashian. Maybe that is why Kim and Kris Humprhies didn’t work out; he constantly held the doors for her while she was all into her own thing.

Please Cody, don’t get sucked into the Kardashian madness!

Look, Cody Simpson is saying the right things, even though the two were spotted out on a date (that wasn’t a date) together:

Kylie and I laugh about the dating rumours. They (Kylie and sister Kendall) are very close friends of mine.

Still, it can’t be hard to imagine Kylie Jenner in a meeting with her mother Kris. Can you imagine Kris reminding Kylie to keep Cody around since the Australia pop star could be the next Justin Bieber? Oh the dollar signs!

Expect that the two will hang out quite a bit more; that is until Cody Simpson wises up and realizes that what he is calling ‘not dating’ is just a typical Kardashian family ruse.

Online Dating Characteristics [Infographic]

How online dating plays a role in today’s digital world.

Online dating is not an unheard-of term anymore, but is very commonplace now in today’s society. I am sure you know of at least one couple that met on the internet, or is in a long-distance relationship and uses the internet to help their relationship succeed. I remember when I was back in high school, I knew of an older couple that met online and thought to myself “I’ve never heard of people doing that before.”

Now that we live in a digital world, and with social networking, texting, and instant messaging having such an integral part of our lives, the premise of online dating is easier than ever. It can also be “up in your face” when you’re not expecting it. I am sure that you have seen the commercials on TV for online dating that reach out to specific audiences.

Millennials

Millennials Don’t Really Want To Continue ‘Dating’ Companies, But They Have No Choice.

Millennials are notoriously known for their “dating” approach to employment. They’ll try one company out, and if they don’t like it after a while, they’ll try another.

But a new study by recruiting agency Achievers found that young people aren’t just overly-selective. It’s that times have changed, and companies need to better respond to having a younger workforce.

According to the survey of 7,944 college students across the country, the average length of time Millennials want to stay with a company is 4.7 years — more than double the time they are actually staying.

The No. 1 reason they’re leaving is their inability to move up in their career, which 54 percent of the survey respondents listed as their top motivator for working at a company. Suleman says companies can easily retain more employees by showing them there’s a path for progression.

The study also found that Millennials also dislike annual performance reviews and want frequent and immediate feedback so they know if they’re doing a good job and how they can improve.

Basically it comes down to the need for better communication between employers and young employees.

Minka Kelly Rumored To Be Dating Wilmer Valderrama

Wilmer Valderrama’s acting career hasn’t exactly been in the spotlight since his days as Fez in That ’70s Show, but his personal life is a whole different matter. Throughout the years he’s managed to nab some of Hollywood’s hottest stars, which has earned him a steady amount of press. In fact, he’s the talk of the town this week thanks to rumors that he’s dating Derek Jeter’s ex-girlfriend Minka Kelly. (Apparently they were spotted getting cozy at the nightclub Marquee The Star in Sydney, Australia and were even pictured together in Valderrama’s recent Twitter post).

Indeed, for only 32 years old, this guy has certainly made the celebrity rounds, but are all these women better for having dated him? Let’s have history speak for itself — what is the Wilmer Valderrama Effect?

The Career Pitfall
Back when Valderrama was just starting out on That ’70s Show, he developed a relationship with actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. At this point, she was at the tail end of her Party of Five stint and had starred in hit films such as I Know What You Did Last Summer and Can’t Hardly Wait. But after their fling finally fizzled, Hewitt’s popularity began to dwindle and she started starring in dismal box office flops like Heartbreakers. Eventually she picked up a five-year stint playing Melina Gordon on The Ghost Whisperer, but that’s still nowhere near the caliber of projects she was once a part of. Not to say she won’t reclaim her high celebrity status: She’s now looking to push up her career in The Client List.

The Career Transition
Mandy Moore began dating Valderrama (her first boyfriend ever, by the way) on and off from 2001 to 2002. It was around this same time that Moore experienced a career transition from music to acting. Singing became less of a main focus to her, though she managed to incorporate musical performances into a few of her films. But for the most part, she traded in her microphone for a script and happily rode the waves of cinematic success by starring in the likes of A Walk To Remember, Saved, and License To Wed. Sure, she’s not really known for really stretching out her acting chops too much (there are only so many chick flicks one person should be allowed to be in), but the industry crossover proved to be quite rewarding for a while. Thank you Valderrama?

The Career Self-Destruction
If you couldn’t already tell in the headline, I’m referring to the one and only Lindsay Lohan. A 17-year-old Lilo fell hard for Mr. Valderrama in 2004 — the same year the actress achieved the highest point of her acting career: Mean Girls. After a few less than impressive films (Herbie Fully Loaded anyone?), Lohan threw herself into relentless partying, which resulted in a DUI in 2007 and countless visits to a courtroom/rehab. Forget dark days, this girl’s been through some dark years. That Valderrama hangover really kicked into full gear on this one.

The Career Delay
Rumors abounded in 1999 that Valderrama was dating his That ’70s Show co-star Mila Kunis. And while neither star ever confessed to the courtship, it’s not uncommon for romantic relationships to bloom while on set. (Please see: all of Hollywood.) Like Valderrama, Kunis’ career became almost non-existent after That ’70s Show wrapped, and it looked like the stunning actress had fallen off the public’s radar for good. But then in 2010, Kunis starred alongside A-lister Denzel Washington in The Book of Eli, which quickly launched her back into the entertainment spotlight. Since then she’s become one of the hottest stars in the business, earning roles in huge box hits such as Black Swan and Friends With Benefits. She’s even got marines launching adorable YouTube videos all in an attempt to ask her out. If we were Valderrama, we’d wish we could too.

Russell Brand ‘Can’t Believe’ Katy Perry Is Dating Model Baptiste.

Less than a week after rumours emerged suggesting that Russell Brand might have cheated on his wife Katy Perry, the comedian has allegedly slammed her current beau Baptiste, calling him a “thicko”.

The ‘Get Him To The Greek’ star recently confessed that his split with his wife of 14-months is “meaningless”, but has waded in to give his opinion about Katy’s reported new relationship with the French model.

One of Russell’s pals has told Now magazine: “He can’t believe she’s gone for Baptiste. He thinks she’s really downgraded intellectually from him and he’s called Baptiste an ‘effeminate thicko’.”

They also added: “The irony is, they’d get on really well.”

Katy and Baptiste are ‘just friends’ according to the model and the singer, but they were very close during the recent Paris Fashion Week and some have reported that the model is coming over to LA for the star.

The cheating claims came to light when Katy’s best mate, jewellery designer Markus Molinari retweeted a message which read: “Cheating is easy, try doing something challenging and be faithful.”

He also added: “Seeee Russell!” But when asked if Russell had cheated on Katy, his rep said: “No comment.”

Do you think Baptiste is a downgrade for Katy?

Him Dating Demi Lovato

Niall Horan’s Mom Would Approve of Him Dating Demi Lovato.

Niall Horan recently became a very lucky man when brunette beauty Demi Lovato admitted that she’s got a crush on him, and now his mom has said that she’d approve of Naill dating the former Disney star.

The Irish member of One Direction is proving to be very popular with American girls, but his mom doesn’t seem too concerned about all the crazy fans throwing bras at her boy. Lots of mothers might be protective of their offspring once they step into the spotlight, but Niall’s mom would be happy with whomever her son decides to date.

According to Herald.ie, here’s what Maura Gallagher said about her son dating Demi Lovato: “She’d be worthy, he has my blessing … I’d never turn any girl of Niall’s away, that’s the kind of mother I am.”

Niall Horan has let on that he might be interested in dating Demi in the past, so who knows? Maybe he actually told his mom that he’s got a thing for her. Niall is probably pretty close to his mom if she’s as cool and laid back at she seems – after all, he’s got enough going on in his life without having to worry about parental problems.

Maura Gallagher also seems to have a good grasp on what celebrity life is like and how tabloids work, because she also said this: “People are interested in this kind of thing [relationships] about him now — if he’s associated with every girl he’s in a photo with, so be it. But I wouldn’t stand in his way, he has to live his life.”

Niall will probably meet tons of celebs while he’s in America since One Direction is winning famous fans left and right, including Selena Gomez and even Michelle Obama. This means he probably will be photographed with lots of beautiful girls like Demi Lovato, and any one of those photos could be used to start a romance rumor. Some parents would probably worry over such things, but it seems like Niall’s mom isn’t going to sit around and fret about the gossip she reads about her son.

There is one thing that awesome-sounding mom Maura Gallagher might want to worry about, however – Niall Horan’s band mate Harry Styles has a thing for older women, so she might want to watch out for the Lothario laying a few pick up lines on her.

Birthdays, Dating & a Twitter Support Group

This weekend will mark my 46th birthday.  I don’t feel 46, or look 46, but I will in fact be 46.  I can vividly remember when my mother turned 35 and I thought she was the oldest person in the world.  My mother is only 22 years older than I am.  I have dated men who were 22 years older than I am, which is just creepy.  I am 30 years older than my son and if he ever dates someone my age I am going to lose my mind and hurt someone.  By someone, of course I mean the perverted old woman who wants to date my baby.

I feel prettier at 46 than I did at 36, 26, or 16.  I am aware of who I am as a human being, a mother, a friend, a sister, and a lover.  I have earned every grey hair and every wrinkle.  I am not ashamed of my body, my choices, my opinions, my goals, my dreams, or my fears.  I am hopeful.  I am free.  I am scared.  Hopeful that the world will be kind to my child and allow him to live his best life.  Free to speak my mind and have people who not only fight for my voice to be heard, but encourage me to share that voice.

I am scared that I will live the rest of my life alone because I was not brave enough to allow myself to find love again.  I have survived a broken marriage and a broken heart, and sometimes the memory of that broken heart allows my hope to be trumped by fear.  I am my best self in a great relationship, but comfortable and happy enough in my life alone that there is no desperate need to have one, only a desire.  The sad thing about being alone is that the only way to end that is to date, and dating sucks.

I have been on a few dates with a man I have been calling #2.  He is lovely and I am having a good time.  He is funny, charming, smart, strong, supportive, and kind.  He is also a smart ass and sarcastic.  He makes me laugh, think, and flutter.  He is also the only man in a very long time that I have had more than one date with.  I am old, tired, slightly jaded, and not interested in wasting my time, or anyone else’s, so for me going on a lot of bad first dates is how my dating life has been playing out.

I met this man through YanikaDate.com and he is not at all my type.  If you read my column with any regularity, you know that I have gone out with a series of schmucks, so using that as the criteria, this man is not a schmuck, and so he is automatically not my type.  I suppose there is a chance he could turn out to be a putz as we’ve all been tricked before, but I have a good feeling about this one.  I’m not sure where it will go, but a friendship is being built and that is a great thing.  I am enjoying my new friend.

I will panic of course and try to sabotage it.  I will grab hold of something silly and use it as a reason to not see him.  I will get scared, get crazy, and get embarrassed.  It’s what women do, and it does not matter that we tell ourselves we are not going to be lunatics, it is simply in our genes and it’s going to happen.  Not much we can do about it, and no point in warning them because it makes us look insane, so we jump in, hold our breath, and pray they are strong enough, and smart enough, to hang on.

I am not a huge fan of Twitter.  I think it’s a mean place and I spend a lot of time thinking about the day I will quit.  You can imagine my surprise that Twitter has now become a support group of sorts.  In a moment of panic, I tweeted that I was on my way to a date, the first one with #2, and that I was nervous.  That led to a series of tweets that took my breath away.  My followers started to send me tweets of support.  People let me know they were pulling for me and that I deserved to find someone great.

I sometimes forget people other than my friends and my mother read my blogs, and that these people jumped in to support me was lovely.  I heard from married women who said they hope I find a man like theirs, single women who are in the same boat, men who warned me about how to spot a schmuck, and young people saying I gave inspiration to their parents.  The tweets made me laugh and cry.  I could not believe this social media site, which had been so painful, was now kind.  I adore these people who have become invested in my journey.

As I turn 46, I find myself thankful.  I love my son and my family. I love my work and know good things are going to happen professionally.  I love my friends, both those who hold me up when I am weak, and those who have virtually come into my life to provide me with light and hope.  Since there is a possibility I will not live to be 92, I am not middle aged as much as I am old, and I must tell you, old is good.  I have overcome much to be here and I owe it to myself to now count my blessings and keep the faith.
